Monday's Memory

Spider Man

A childhood hero of Todd's was Spider man. He had tee shirts, underwear, PJ's, and even a piggy bank with "Spidy" on them. But his favorite had to be his doll. (Todd would probably be upset if he knew I said he had a doll, so let's call it a stuffed toy.) I'm not sure where he got it, but it was always treasured.
Tayson also loved Spider man. So I passed "Spidy" on to him. Wouldn't it be cool to be passed on to a third generation?!

Switzerland--2007

I love to travel, and thankfully, my friend, Ann does also. We decided to go to Switzerland in July. It was amazing. We had so much fun and felt like experienced travelers, traveling by train and staying in a youth hostel. By the end of the week, we were expert at jumping on and off trains, and we usually ended up where we meant to be! Two memories stand out from that trip.
**Our trip to Zurmott and the Matterhorn. We stayed in a very cute, little hotel with a great view of the Matterhorn. But as Ann was oohing and aahing about the view of the mountain, I was just as excited about the great, claw footed bath tub in the bathroom.
The next day we took a cog train inside a tunnel that went straight up. (At least it felt that way to me!) And then, after that ordeal, we had to get in a gondola and go up higher. As you know, I'm afraid of heights and this was quite a challenge for me. But the view was worth it, and the walk down the mountain was amazing. At one point, I just had to throw out my arms, turn around and around, and belt out "the hills are alive with the sound of music." Beautiful wild flowers and small streams were everywhere.
**Our train pass also included boat rides on Lake Geneva. One day, just as a boat was about to leave, we jumped on before finding out where it was going. Talk about being adventurous. As it turned out, it wasn't going anywhere close to where we needed to be, so we had to get off at the next city and catch a train to get home. A little embarrassing, but we still laugh about it. We also saw some of the largest fields of sunflowers I've ever seen.

Monday's Memory

Christmas--1955

I remember this Christmas very well. It was the year Santa came in the form of Grandma and Grandpa Busby! We were living in La Puente and Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit. When they pulled up to our house, their car was piled high with gifts. I mean, there were tons of them. When we asked where all of the presents came from, they smiled and said that they had run into Santa on their way and he asked if they could take some of our gifts to us! Holy cow...we were believers.
There is one other thing I remember about this Christmas. You can't see them in this picture, but on my feet is my new pair of tap shoes! How I loved those shoes. I was taking dancing lessons from Dennis, the Mouseketeer. He was one the the lesser known, but that didn't matter to me. I loved dancing. Unfortunately, either I didn't have the talent or we didn't have the money, because they didn't last long. But the love of dance has always been a part of me.

Tatanka--March 1993

For a couple of year when Amy and Todd were in high school, we went to Brian Head with several families from the church. It was always a great time; playing in the snow, staying in the condos together, a private church service on Sunday morning, and for some (not me) great skiing.
As I have mentioned before, Todd always brings with him laughter and a good time. Brian Head was no exception. Todd found this hat and just had to have it. And it was a hit. It was really fun to have everyone, friends and strangers, call out "tatanka' as he skied past. What a goof-ball!

How can you not love this guy?!

It a Small World

Last week was Carson's first grade performance, "It's a Small World". Luckily, I was able to attend and it was great. The kids had been practicing for weeks, learning several songs in foreign languages including Spanish, French, and even Swahili. He also started the program with a welcome for the audience. When I asked him his favorite part, he actually said that he enjoyed his speaking part the most. My favorite was the song "One Thing I Know".

The Boy Friend

It's not what you think! My senior year of high school, I was in the play, The Boy Friend. All of my best friends were in it too, so it was great fun. I loved being on stage, singing and dancing, pretending to be someone else. I was the character Nancy, a young English girl, attending a finishing school in France with her friends. And of course, we "hook up" with some local boys. Lots of fun songs, dances, and great costumes from the roaring 20's. This picture is the scene where we were in our bathing suits at "the plage" (pool).
I got some really cool pictures taken of me because the school photographer had a crush on me!

Toilet Papering

The other day, one of my friends mentioned on Face book that they got toilet papered the night before. That sure put a smile on my face. I loved toilet papering when I was in high school...so much fun. The fun of planning the attack, the thrill of trying not to get caught, and the joy of driving by after wards to view the beauty we had created. Two funny stories come to mind.
#1--Mom's rule was that whoever's friends did the job had to clean it up. One night Mark came home to find the house toilet papered and his name, in big letters, was on the front lawn. He quickly changed the name to Mel and got away with not having to clean it up the next morning.
#2--The summer I graduated from high school, we went to Alabama for a month to visit my Uncle Jack. The night I got home, the front tree was decorated with toilet seat covers all over it! I'm sorry to say, I don't have a picture of it, but it was awesome--very creative.
