A Day At the Beach
Can you believe all the stuff we had to take to spend a bay at the beach?! A guy just getting out of his car even commented about it!

Happy Birthday, Luke
I can't believe how fast time is going...first Tayson turns 12, and now Luke is 10! And according to him, too old to be called Lukie and more. It's times like this that I'm sorry I live so far away. Instead of a personal visit, I have to settle for Facetime...but it is definitely better than nothing. Happy birthday, Luke. I sure love you.

It Takes All Kinds
One of the things I like to do during my walk/runs is to say hi to people I pass. I have actually made a few "friends" that I see regularly. One man, Sam, always says hi. I see him a couple of times a week, and we sometimes stop and chat for a minute.
There is also a man that I have met while he is waiting for the bus, his bike with his lunch in a plastic bag standing against the bus stop pole.
There is an elderly couple that I often see, the man walking a few steps in front of his wife.
Many people cheer me on as I go by, saying things like,"way to go!" or "good for you".
I will say that the people on the Provo River Trail seem to be the friendliest. Almost everyone has a smile or a hello for you as you go by.
I've had nothing but positive responses from the people I have met...until yesterday morning. As I was walking along the Monterey beach trail, a lady on a bike came riding by. I smiled and said "good morning". Her response..."Go to Hell"! I guess it takes all kinds of people to make up this world!

Road Trip
Mark and Kris came to be with mom for a week, so I took a road trip to Provo, Lake Tahoe,
Monterey, and parts in between.
First stop, Provo. I was able to check on the progress of Todd and Kathy's new house. So far, the basement has been dug and poured. It's pretty cool to see a house take shape.

Sunday...Tayson received the priesthood

The main reason for my road trip was to be there when Tayson received the Aronic Priesthood and became a Deacon. It was a very special time. The bishop asked Sue and me, the two grandmas, to shared a few thoughts, and then Kathy and Todd. Todd then ordained him and gave him a very special blessing.
Monday...On my way to Lake Tahoe
After an hour or two visiting some scrapbooking stores, I was on my way to Lake Tahoe. But, because I was on vacation, and saw no need to drive so many hours, I split the trip and spent the night in "beautiful Winnamucca".
Tuesday...Lake Tahoe
Before I got to Lake Tahoe, I stopped off in Reno and attended a session in the temple.

I then drove down the mountain to Auburn, where I spent the night with Milo and Gale.
Friday...Monterey by way of Oakland
After a walk and breakfast with Milo and Gale, I was off to Oakland for another temple session.

My final stop was Monterey. I didn't get there in time to do any exploring on Friday, so Saturday morning, I walked down to the ocean and along the beach path...past the Warf, Cannery Row and all the way to the Aquarium, (and of course, back) for about 7 miles!!!

After breakfast and a quick shower, I was off for home. It was a very fun, relaxing week. In total, I drove 2050 miles in 35 hours.

Wednesday...Lake Tahoe
I drove around the lake, stopping at a couple of spots along the way. My most relaxing time was on a 2 hour catamaran ride. Heaven
And my most exhausting time...hiking down to Emerald Bay and then up to Eagle Falls
Thursday...Squaw Valley and then off to Auburn
Squaw Valley was the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics. I took the tram up the mountain, did a little hiking, enjoyed the scenery, and headed back down.

Happy Birthday,Tayson
The BIG 12!!! I can't believe it. And Tayson knows how to stretch out a good thing.
After birthday pancakes, grandma and grandpa Schultz took him and some boy cousins boating for the afternoon. Because Todd was out of town, he postponed his birthday dinner until Saturday.
Yea for me,..I was up there by then, so got to join them at the Brick Oven. Tayson really enjoyed his birthday ice cream...

Monday's Memory--Uncle Mel's Visit
Mel was here this past weekend to visit mom, and we got some good reminiscing in. He reminded me about the elephant cake mom bought for dad's birthday. It came from a bakery at Farmer's Market in LA. It was pink elephants crawling around and up an empty wine bottle. When they got to the bakery to order the cake, they were supposed to have the bottle. No bottle...so, mom and Mel went "dumpster diving" and found one.
If you know Mel, you know that he hates to have his picture taken. That makes this one all the more special. This is Mel with Todd. I think he's trying to figure out what to do with him!!!

Sunday School Release
It was with very mixed emotions that I got released from being the gospel doctrine teacher today. I remember quite vividly first turning the calling down because I didn't know the scriptures well enough to teach all those people. I remember the fear I felt just before my first lesson. I went into the bathroom to say a prayer, and all I could do was cry. I remember reading and studying and praying for three weeks just to prepare one lesson. And I remember all the love and support I got from everyone in the class.
Six years, nine partners, and countless lessons later, I can honestly say that it has been the calling that has stretched me the most and helped me to grow amazingly. And it taught me one very important lesson...with the Lord's help, nothing is impossible.

Boogie Boarding
Amy met up with some of her friends at the beach...and a couple of them wanted to boogie board.
They twisted her arm...and she went...
...and loved it.
