Dodger Game

My birthday present from Todd and Kathy was for him to come down for a week and work on my "honey do" list.  Because he can work from anywhere, he can do this without taking any time off from work  Well, he worked, but we also found some time to do some fun things...like go to a Dodger game.  

We decided to add some adventure by going there on the Metro instead of driving.  There is a free bus that goes from Union Station right to Dodger Stadium, but we heard that it's crazy busy after the game and that we could take the Metro one stop further to China Town, and that would be within walking distance to the stadium.  We decided to make sure it wasn't too sketchy by walking it in the daylight.  Up a big hill!  In the heat!!  My heart rate got up to 150 and I had to stop many times to catch my breath, but we made it.  Going back was easy peasy...down hill and much cooler.  All went great until the Metro got side swiped by a car and we had to wait in the hot, unconditioned car until the police cleared the area and we could get moving again.  Quite the adventure!  Oh yeh, the Dodgers lost, but the Dodger dogs and peanuts were well worth the trip.  and Todd got on the jumbo tron!!

 Happy birthday sweetheart.  Look at you...all grown up!!  I'm so proud of you and the man you are becoming.  I love you bunches.

OC Fair

 I haven't been to the fair in years, so it was fun to go with Amy, Todd and Owen.  As always, the pig races were a hit.  I love looking at the garden produce and farm animals.  This year there was a new momma pig with her babies.  So cute.  I also enjoy walking through the crafts and table settings on display.  Something new this year for me was the motor cross and lawnmower races.  What mother in her right mind would let her child race around a track that fast in a riding lawnmower?!

Garden Harvest

 My first crop to harvest were the green beans.  I ended up canning a dozen pints for use later in the year.

I couldn't be happier with my potato harvest this year.  And I still have some in the ground.

I see fried potatoes, hash browns, and stew in my future.

A few weeks later and it was time to harvest my onions. Again, I was so proud of these babies...they are big and round just like the ones you get in the store.  They need to "cure" for a few weeks, and then they should be ready to store.
