A Teenager At Last

Luke officially became a teenager today, 13 years old!  I called him on his phone to sing, and he was at his friend's house.  I could tell he was a little embarrassed.  He really is a teenager!  Happy birthday, sweetheart.  I sure love you.

Monday's Memory--Coronation Court, 1994

Coronation Court is like Homecoming Court, only it's held during basketball season instead of football , and they crown a queen and a king.  It's quite an honor to be on the court, and Todd had the privilege his senior year. There is an entire week of noon time activities including broom hocky, jello hunting, an egg drop and a fashion show.
Amy was on ASB, so after the egg drop, Todd and Johnny got even with her!

Todd was kidnapped from home early Friday morning, got dressed up, and had to go to school dressed like this!  He is on the back row with the blonde wig and hat!

During a pep rally, He was taught how to dance, Tahitian style!

During halftime of the basketball game, Todd escorted me out on the court for the announcement of the king and queen.  He didn't win, but what a fun week for him!

The Great American Eclipse

Evidently, this eclipse was a bigger deal than I thought.  This was the first total solar eclipse to cross the continuous United Stated in 99 years!  You would have to go back to 1257 in order to find another eclipse which touched only American soil!  When will the next one happen?  2316!  I guess this was a pretty big deal.
Todd, Kathy, and kids ventured up to Casper, Wyoming to view the eclipse.  Kathy's brother, Mark, lives there, and they wanted to be in the Totality Zone.

I made a shadow box and viewed it that way.  It was pretty cool, even though we only got about 70% complete.

I will say that the completeness looked more on the paper in the box than the pictures taken on my phone.  Maybe I should have tried my good camera?

Monday's Memory--Choraleers and The Boy Friend

With all of the reunion stuff going on this past weekend, I reminded me of my scrapbook pages of both the the Choraleers and The Boy Friend.  If you want to know more, or see more pictures, check out my 2011 Blog Book.  I have separate entries for them there.

Happy Birthday Tayson

It seems so strange to Facetime Tayson on his own phone!!  Happy birthday, sweetheart.  I know you are going to have a fabulous day on the lake with your friends and a family dinner tonight!  I love you.

WHS Class of 1967 50th Class Reunion--Brunch

Do to church commitments, I was only able to attend the brunch for a few minutes.  It was nice to see everyone again and have a quieter place to visit.

WHS Class of 1967 50th Reunion--Party

Tonight was the "big event", a dinner/party at the Rose Center in Westminster.  We had over 150 people there, 80 or so classmates.  People traveled from all over to come, Larry Goldstein came all the way form Israel!
I was very proud of myself, going from person to person, looking at name tags and saying hi, even to people I didn't know.  The night just flew by, not enough time to catch up with everyone.  But there are some standout reconnections that meant the world to me.

Bonnie Masteller.  We have been great friends since 7th grade.  We did almost everything together. The only thing we didn't share was, she was in the band and I was a banner girl.  After high school, she quickly married and moved out of state and we lost touch.  Miracle of miracles, I found her on Ancestry.com, finding her husband's obituary and a then current address.  I wrote, her son still lived at the address, and tah dah...friends again!  We have talked on the phone many times since, but It was great to get a real hug from her.
Bonnie Masteller

Mark Landmon.  Again, a friend since 7th grade.  In the junior high talent show, he sang the song "Alley Cat" while Bonnie and I danced, swinging our tails to the music!  Oh how I wished there were cell phones back then.  I'd give anything to see what we looked like. (Or maybe not!) Our senior year, Mark was my partner in Choraleers and then played my boy friend in the school play, The Boy Friend.  Both of those things were highlights of my year.  Truth be told, I had a crush on him for most of that year!
Mark Landmon
Ian Cook.  Ian came to Westminster as a junior. He was in choir and also The Boy Friend, but our closest tie was he was a member of the church, one of the few.  It was wonderful to visit with both him and his wife and realize that his faith is still strong.

It was my pleasure to work closely with these two wonderful ladies.  I wasn't very close to them in high school; Debbie and I were in Choraleers together and Melinda and I were in KABII together.  We tended to run in different circles, but I always admired them.

WHS Class of 1967 50th Reunion-Beach Party

I cannot believe that I have been out of high school 50 years!  Well, it's true...50 years!  Last summer, when a group of my high school friends got together for lunch and we realized that our 50th was coming up, we decided to organize a reunion.  It's been so much fun working with them to get ready, and it turned out better than any of us thought possible.
First event--a beach party, life guard station #7, just like the good 'ol days!  We spent countless hours at that beach during the summer, perfecting our tans.  (Of course, we are all paying the price now!)

We are all older, grayer, balder, and heavier, but it so much fun to see these guys.  We gathered around the fire, had 'smores, and talked the night away.

Monday's Memory--Pickled Beets

I decided to can some pickled beets this last week, and it brought back so many memories.  First, I thought of the years I drove up to Idaho to can with my dad and Mary.  Mary's mom had a huge garden, so we canned lots of stuff; beans, peaches, pickles, corn, tomatoes, chili sauce, and pickled beets.  One year we went crazy and  had a marathon canning session...180 jars of canned fruits and vegetables!  Crazy!!

After Mary's mom stopped her garden, we switched to canning just beans and had to go to a u-pick place to get them.  I love thinking of dad in his overalls picking beans with me.

My other thoughts turned to my Grandma Busby.  It was her pickled beets that I loved to eat.  It was her recipe that I used to do my own.  I even have a recipe card in her handwriting.
I only did 5 jars, and had to buy the beets, but it will be so nice to have some pickled beets in my salads or on my plate.  And every time I do, I'll think of these two wonderful people that I had in my life.
