Luke's Mission Call

Luke read his mission call this evening.  He actually received it on Tuesday, but did't want to open it until tonight.  It was pretty funny because we were in Las Vegas having dinner when e was supposed to open it.  I'm sure the waitress and other diners thought we were pretty strange, all of us on our phones tryig to listen to what was happening in Provo.  Finally, he read his call and we all cheered, right there in the restaurant.  Pretty fun experience.  He will be going to the South Korea Busan mission, reporting for 2 weeks of home MTC on Monday, September 19th.  He will then spend 6-7 weeks in the Provo MTC before heading to Korea.  So excited for him.

Kathy's reaction was priceless.  She was so surprised.  She just kept saying, "What?!  What?!"

Happy Birthday Carson

This is a big one!  With a capital B!!  Carson turned 18 today.  He now is old enough to receive the Melchizedek priesthood and go on his mission.  He also can vote.  And play the lottery!!  We had his birthday dinner yesterday and today, he took his three best friends to Texas de Brazil.  That was what he wanted for his birthday present!  

Happy birthday sweetheart.  Your are growing into a most amazing young man.  Watch out world, here he comes.

Senior Trips

My house was used by Carson and Luke and "hotels" for their senior trips to Disneyland.

First up was Carson and his friends.  They asked for me not to be there, so I stayed at Amy's for two nights while Carson and his friends enjoyed Disneyland and crashed at my house.  No pictures!

Then Luke drove down with five girls!  Yes, his friends turned out to be all girls!  They did three days at Disneyland and a day at the beach, including a cookout.

Carson came down to spend some time with Luke, and then later in the day, the entire Mortensen clan came for dinner.  So Much Fun!!!

Monday's Memory--Puddingstone Dam

Raging Waters is right next to Puddingstone Dam, a place full of wonderful memories for me.  When we lived in LaPuente, we often went to Puddingstone to cool off and play in the water.  I was probably in 4th, 5th, early 6th grades when we lived there.  

And we often went with our friends and neighbors, the Steele family.  This picture is Bette, younger sister Cindi, and me.  The left side of the picture is the dam cement going up.  That is where we would put our towels and lay down ( it couldn't have been very comfortable!)  This picture is from the internet, but it shows people lounging on the cement.

I remember one time Mel needing to go to the bathroom and mom walking him across the hot concrete, barefooted.  She ended up with huge blisters on the bottom of her feet!

This is also where I got my first kiss!  I was out at the buoys with Jimmy Steele and we both went under the water and he kissed me!!

This is what it looks like today.  A reservoir inside a regional park.  Notice the concrete spillway on the far side.  That's were all the "action" happened!

Raging Waters

 I don't think I had ever been to Raging Waters before, and it was so much fun.  Lots of water slides and a terrific lazy river.  The kids had fun on the "playground" shooting people with water, and trying to get across the pool on lily pads.  Of course, we ended our day with something sweet, funnel cake this time.

Glen Ivy

Glen Ivy is always a treat, especially when I get to share it with Amy.  Mom always gave me gift certificates for my birthdays and Christmas, and I would save them up until I had enough for a full day, facial, massage, mud treatment and the grotto. I used the last of my certificates today...thanks  mom.
