Washington DC My best friend, Ann, is also my traveling companion. We have had some great trips together, but the one I'd like to share tonight was a trip to Washington DC in the spring of 2004 . We timed it just right to be there when the cherry trees by the Jefferson Memorial were in full bloom and it was beautiful. The first couple of days there, it rained, but we didn't let that stop us. We were able to stay dry by visiting the museums. This was when the Star Spangled Banner was being cleaned and it was amazing to see that huge flag all spread out. People were on a scaffolding on their stomachs using cotton balls to clean it. Fascinating. The sun came out the last few days, so we were able to get to some of the outdoor monuments. My favorite memory from that trip was after we had been to Arlington to see Kennedy's grave and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, we decided that we would walk through the cemetery and over to see Iwo Jima. Little did we know that there was a pretty tall wall we had to scale. It makes me smile, every time I think about how we must have looked.
