Sophie Bug

Not be be left out, Sophie had her first day of preschool the same day as Claire's first day of kindergarten. It was actually an open house, so Kathy and I took her and got to meet her teacher and see what she was going to be doing this year. It's a great school and Sophie is going to love it.

At the end, she got a big "bear hug" as she was leaving. What fun!

Kindergarten

Today was Emma and Wyatt's first day of school. And not just any first day, but their first day of kindergarten. I love being there to share in this experience with all of my grandkids. This time, it was double the excitement. The pictures in the morning took a little longer than planned, so we had to rush so they wouldn't be late. Maybe that was good since it didn't give them time to worry about what was ahead. Wyatt was really excited to start school and jumped right in.

Emma, on the other hand, was a little worried. She actually shed a few tears last week when talking about school starting. As it turned out, they both had a great first day.

Monday's Memory

Shipwrecked Dance--8th grade, 1963

Part of 8th grade graduation was a "shipwrecked" dance. We needed to come in costume of what we looked like or what we were doing when the ship went down. I found this great nightshirt, so all I had to add was a night cap and viola', I was shipwrecked at night, while I was sleeping! I really don't remember anything about the dance, But I sure wish I still had that nightshirt. IT was classic. What's really cool about this picture is the front room. Notice the computer/piano/play room is enclosed (because it actually started out as mom and dad's bedroom!), the TV is a black and white, and we still have and use that coffee table.

Luke's Big Day

Last Wednesday was a very big day for Luke; his 5th birthday and his first day of kindergarten. I flew up to Utah to join in on the festivities. What fun. We took pictures and then the entire family walked him to school. He was so excited to finally go to school.

Kindergarten

The first day of school for my kids was always hard for me. It meant the end of a fun summer, spending lots of time together. But it also brought on a case of the guilts. (I always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom, however, life didn't cooperate.) On the first day of any given year, the kids would get ready in their new clothes and pose for the annual first day of school pictures. I love looking back at those pictures and see the happy, excited smiles.
When the first day of kindergarten came for Tayson, I wanted to be there. I missed so much of his life being so far away; birthdays, school programs, ball games. This was one thing I could attend. It was so much fun to share in the excitement of that day. Since then, I have decided that this was going to be a "grandma thing", being there for the first day of kindergarten.
Monday was Carson's turn. He was so excited, he could hardly eat breakfast. As we dropped him off, he waved good bye, blew kisses, and went into the classroom with a big smile on his face. What was really cute was that at the end of the morning, when we picked him up, he said, "That was so much fun, can I come back tomorrow?" If he only knew!
