I discovered on Saturday that my college roommate, Ann Howe Sherry, and her husband, Tom, have recently been called to serve a mission in Fiji. My mind instantly went to two places; Greeley, Colorado and my college days there with Ann, and Fiji, my vacation of a lifetime. Tonight, I think I'll tackle Greeley and save Fiji for another night.
Ann and I met in the dorms our first year at Colorado State College. I was a junior and she was a freshman. We agreed to share an apartment the next year, and a great friendship was started.Some things I remember about Ann:
*She was always positive and soft spoken
*She was a great listener and always kept confidences
*She saved chicken bones and when she had enough, she would boil them to make soup (I think of her every Thanksgiving while I"m making turkey soup out of the turkey bones!)
*We drove to Denver one weekend to have dinner with her dad in a very fancy hotel
*We loved to play ping-pong in the basement of the institute. I can't remember who was better, but I do remember it being fun
*She taught me to love relief society...up to that point, I thought RS was just for "old ladies"
*I'm a better person because of my time with Ann
Ann transferred to BYU the next year and we lost some of that closeness we shared, but I have always considered her my friend and smile when I think back to those fun times.
