Christmas Lights

There isn't much free time at Christmas, and teenagers makes it even worse.  We managed to get a few minutes and went to a local street to help get into a festive mood.

 

Monday's Memory--Grandpa's Hat

 Mom has had this hat on her bookcase for as long as I can remember.  

It was her dad's  Originally, it was supposed to go to Mel, but the years haven't been kind to it, and it's pretty much unwearable. 

I remember putting this hat in the back window on every trip we took to Twin.  Mom always said she felt safer traveling with just us kids if the other drivers thought there was a man in the car!  I guess grandpa was looking out for us, even from heaven!

Almost Ready!!

It was hard for me to decorate the house this year.  The first thing I did was decorate a tree for mom.  A little tree with lots of icicles!!  I know that it made her smile.

And then I was ready to tackle the house.  

Mom's stolen Santa holds the place of honor...

...the brownies were found on the top of the tree...

...and the elf family was right on top of the hutch.

I can't imagine my house looking any different. 

After $400 was spent on groceries, I think I'm ready for everyone to come.  I'm so excited!!!

Love Language--Giving Gifts

 When Todd was here last time, he asked about my love language...how I like others to show me love.  He gave me a test and it came back touch.  I feel loved by others hugs and touches.  Somehow, I wasn't surprised by that results.  

But, as I thought about how I like to show my love, I decided that I show my love by giving gifts.  Some of my favorite times of Christmas is me making treats or gifts for my friends and family.

Monday's Memory--Palm Frond Rudolph

 Amy asked for some pictures of this Rudolph made from a palm frond.  I had forgotten all about it.  I'm not sure where mom got it.  I know she didn't make it because she wasn't very crafty.  But she loved that Rudolph.  I thought it was pretty lame!  Every year I tried to talk her out of putting it up, and every year she won.  And she always said that we could bury her with it!  I don't remember when we got rid of it, but I know it's not with her!!

Look how little our family was this year!!  Amy and Todd must have spent Christmas in Utah, Milo and Gale lived in Auburn and only came every other year, Mel and Alicia lived in Albuquerque and only came every other year!! Cindy, Missy, and Aunt Agnes were on the every other year schedule as well.
