Boston Marathon

Kathy qualified for the Boston Marathon when she ran St George.  It was pretty funny, because she, Danny, and Sherry all were sitting by the pool, just hours after they finished St George, already registering for Boston!
Interesting fact, Boston is run on the first Monday in April, Partiot's Day, commemorating the Battle of Lexington and Concord.  I didn't know that!
Anyway, Kathy took a couple of her running friends and spent a long weekend in Boston, enjoying the sights and even taking in a Red Sox game. The race was great.  She finished in 3 hours 56 minutes.  And then, 12 minutes later, the bomb went off.  Luckily, Kathy had already finished and was well away from danger.  But it sure put a damper on the race for her and everyone else.  On a side note, Kathy was also on a girl's trip to NYC and DC on 9/11.  She has been told that she can't go on any more girl trips!!!

A Random Thought

Today, as I was driving to Stake Conference, I watched a man and his dog stop at a corner and then cross the street.  The dog kept looking back at his owner, making sure the man was still there and that he, the dog, was doing the right thing.  It reminded me of children, having so much faith and trust in their parents.  How many times have you seen a small child say "catch me" and then jump off of a rock, or out of a tree, or into a pool into their parents arms.  And then look up to see approval, that they did it right.  I am very grateful to a loving Heavenly Father who is always there, ready to catch me, even if I haven't said "catch".  And for the knowledge that He give me that I did it right.

West Side Story

Play #3---West Side Story

What wonderful music...I Feel Pretty...Tonight...Somewhere...Officer Krumkie...the list goes on and on.

Easter Breakfast

The weather didn't cooperate...it was chilly...but the food and fun more than made up for it.  Mark and Kris joined Mom, Amy, Todd, and the kids for our annual Easter Breakfast.  Many years ago, we gave up trying to have it on Easter weekend, and now we just pick a Saturday around Easter.
We ate, the kids rode their scooters, we had a "snack" hunt, and the kids rode their scooters some more.  All in all, a very nice time at the park.
Yeh, he didn't really cook!

He didn't either!

Monday's Memory--Snow Fun!

In book group this month, we are reading The Snow Child, a story based on a Russian folktale about a snowgirl coming to life.  Today, while I was reading, I came to the part where this older couple, who were kind of sedate and feeling their age, went outside and into a field covered in new snow.  And they had a snowball fight, laughing and having a great time.  It was so out of character for them, acting like kids.  But it made me smile, because I remembered back many years to when Amy and Todd were newly weds, still living in Utah.  One day we went up into the mountains a little ways to go sledding.  Todd had to go back to the car for something, and Amy and I worked quickly, making as many snowballs as we could.  When Todd came back, he got attacked.  It was so much fun...I laughed so hard that I cried.

Another time, Ann and I went snowshoeing.  We stopped off the path and made snow angels and had a snowball fight.   Again, it was so much fun, and again I laughed and laughed.

What is it about snow that takes our inhibitions away and allows us to revert back to childhood, when it was OK to have snowball fights, make snow angels, and laugh your head off.

Beauty and the Beast

Show #2 for Amy's Christmas present was Beauty and the Beast.  We saw it last night, and it was amazing.  So much fun singing and dancing...and I walked out of the theater feeling happy.  There's nothing like Disney.

Monday's Memory--The Easter Hunt

Easter Morning--1982--Amy, 4--Todd, 6
As Amy's kids were searching for candy eggs yesterday, I had a flashback to 30 years ago when it was Todd and Amy doing the hunting.  I know I've said this a hundred times before...but it seems just like yesterday!  I found this picture in Amy's book and had to share it.  I love their Easter baskets, Amy with a beach bucket and Todd with a Dodger hat.  I love seeing the old TV and plant rack.  Notice the louvered doors that are no longer.  And I especially love Amy pointing out an egg she couldn't reach.  Owen did that exact thing yesterday many times.  I guess kids don't change much.
